When I was little, all I wanted was to grow up to be a mommy and a wife. That was it. That was the dream. Marriage, to me, was supposed to be forever - a bond that could never be broken. Often, people like myself, don’t want to believe their dream of their family is dying. We want to believe things are better than they actually are. We want to believe that things will one day change for the good. We want so badly to believe…But, for some of us, divorce is the only option we have for peace in our home. And for our hearts to heal. The shame around divorce can be awful. The gossip, rumors and accusations of who is at fault - we are branded as broken. However, I would like to offer another perspective. One where the person has trusted God, forgiven and chosen to cover their spouse with dignity and protection. In the midst of their pain, they allow God to walk them through ending a damaged relationship; with the hopes of them each finding healing and peace. To dismantle the blanket of shame, here is my story. Of not one, but two divorces. The capacity to love, heal, forgive, accept - the depth for joy and grief, pain and sorrow. All of these cavities in our soul run much deeper than we know. . . A constant reminder in my spirit this year, has been to reach for MORE. My friend, where you have love, reach for more; there are still greater depths to explore. Where you have faith, there are yet more valleys and mountains to press into. Where you have questions, you should not stop them, but rather press in and ask more. In your relationships, you shouldn't settle for what "works", but fight for new levels of connection. In your relationship with Spirit, don't stop searching just because you think you've figured it out. Rather, chase after mysteries yet unsolved. And where you have found intimacy, which is truly one of the greatest gifts, don't hold it loosely or take it for granted. It should be nurtured, cultivated and fed so that it can continue to grow to depths unimaginable. . . The saddest story in this life is one where we settle for less than. Where we take table scraps as though a real meal is not coming. Our lives are made to hunger and thirst for more - in every area of our soul. This is a gift - an invitation to a life full of abundance and an inner sacred cup that overflows. . . . My friend. Do not settle. Do you hear me? Do not settle. You are worth far more than that. The story of Jesus (and Easter) isn't merely his death on a cross and his coming back to life - that was just the final chapter. 🍃 . . Rather his story was a continual picture of dead things coming back to life. One of a life to the fullest, cups running over and a life filled with more. Of dead hopes being reborn, social stigmas being removed and of things we think we will never see coming to back to life. This is the story of nature, the story of Jesus and story of me. 🍃 . . Well friends, rest assured it isn't me. Meet my friend, Jannah. ✨ . . I've known this beautiful soul since I was 13. We danced many stages together when we were younger and then we married and had babies... Life shifted. But, we shifted too. We each grew. And this girl keeps showing up - in life and in friendship. She sat with me in my car while I was terrified on my wedding day. We've shared laughs and tears over the most stupid and serious things (all the things). ✨ . . She cooked and cleaned for me for a month straight while I wrote my last book. She became a nanny to Noa while I was pastoring and even stayed with her while I went out of town so we could wean her from nursing. She held my hand the day my marriage fell apart.... And held my babies when life got really, really hard. And, most importantly, she continues to push me to be my most authentic self. ✨ . . Today was no different. She shared coffee with me and Noa and then preceded to charm all of the children at the playground. I don't know how she does it. Or how I got so lucky to have her in my life.
