Can we just talk about what a big deal it is when someone hears you? Being heard is more than someone merely listening. It means they listened to your heart and the meaning behind your words. It means when they didn't understand, they weren't afraid to ask questions and dig deeper. It means they listened with an intent to understand - not an intent to change, dismiss or judge. Being heard is everything. . . But, there is something more to this conversation. There are those beautiful souls who have the ability to hear what you aren't saying. Who have an uncanny way of looking past your words and seeing directly into your soul. Into the parts you try to hide, the places that are tender and sore. These lovers of our hearts, watch, learn and study us in ways that don't even seem human. And yet, even after uncovering all of our debris, they choose to cherish, embrace and nurture those tender parts of us. . . When you encounter a soul like this, allow their love to write a new chapter on your heart. Allow them access to your inner dialogue and best kept secrets. Allow their love to soften the hard places and pour water into dry ground. THIS is what lovers of our souls look like. When one finds you, love them in return. We are the creators. We have hands to build, minds to think, bodies to carry and hearts to pulse through everything we do. . . It is tempting to hesitate at the beginning of something new. A new life, new relationship, new career, new community, new work. We hesitate because we are afraid. Afraid the new life won't work out, the new relationship will end badly, the new career will grow stagnant, the new community will disappoint or the new work won't take off. We hold onto these fears because of disappointments from the past. . . But, these are simply shadows of what once was. There were reasons those situations didn't pan out - maybe because you were meant to be here, in this new place, all along - maybe there were lessons learned through those circumstances that you needed to carry you through this new season. There's always something to be gained. Even when things fall apart. . . Whatever new thing you are building, don't let fears from what lay behind stop you. Show up. Go all in. Create. Explore. Dig deep. Plant roots. Pour love. BUILD. You were made to create and explore new things. Don't allow the past to cause you to get stuck. There is something equally as beautiful in strength, protection, and power. For a long time, these dynamics were out of balance for me. Not because I didn't have them, but because I thought I needed permission to access them. Which left me in this kind of numb space. . . The interesting thing is though, when you feel like all you can be is gentle, you end up full of rage - because the power has no where to go. And when you feel like all you have to be is strong, you end up with loads of anxiety. Because the tenderness has no where it feels safe. . . These power dynamics inside of us are constant. Learning how to lean into what our body needs to express and what our heart needs to feel, is the key to landing on our feet. . . Your power is vital. Your softness is so important. We need you to show up as ALL of you. Every part matters. And every part is needed. Speak less. Be less emotional. Less confrontational. Less hurt. Less angry. When I wasn't this way, I was called things like, “rebellious”, “lack of submitting”, “Jezebel”, “out of order”, “not of God”. And even still, I continued to rise louder. Because, out in the wild, I discovered the Spirit's fierce passion for women who rise out of oppression, racism, hate, abuse, patriarchy and mistreatment. This is my story of abuse. Validating the pain, naming it, offering it safety, can bring loads of healing to a hurting soul. But, ignoring it or pretending it isn't there, can do so much damage. A simple moment of eye contact, a hug and an acknowledgement of saying, "I see you" offers healing balm to an aching heart. You don't have to have all the right answers or even the right words. Just a safe presence in the midst of their storm is enough. Pain is often accompanied by loneliness. By sitting with someone in their trauma, you send a message that says, "you are not alone". This is the greatest gift you can give. ❤ To all of the hurting souls today, I see you. Your pain is worthy of validation. Your story is worth being seen. Your heart is precious and deserves being held and cared for.
